I survived my first Primary Activity
All the planning and organizing came down to the test last Tuesday. We had 100 kids show up to a water activitiy in the park. We had so much help from parents and teachers that it really wasn't that crazy. The kids had a blast and I felt like it went really well. Hooray, for that being done with! Next up, the Primary Sacrament Meeting Program. I am a little worried about the writing of and organizing of this project but I am sure it will turn out alright. Everyone loves the primary program.

Chrissy, I know your not asking for advice but you know me . . . can't hold myself back . . .
My easiest super duper way of writing a primary program is to take the text right from the CSMP. As you notice it is written in first person (I actually haven't looked at this years program, it is the first time in YEARS I haven't been in primary!) but it is usually in first person and flows right along with the songs . . . that would give you half your parts and you'd just have to fill in with other stuff for the rest. . . .

i agree with tina... one year we wrote everything just following the themes not thinking we could use them word for word. the next year we were like "screw that" and we've strictly followed the program outline ever since. just fyi, we do make sure to add "testimony spots" and "experience thoughts" that the kids "write" on their own and then use the music to get creative.
but yeah, we're starting work on ours this week, too! it's always a stressful time of year. and it's over just in time to arrange classes for next year and then you have three months of class adjustments and sunbeam settling just in time to worry about all of the activities for the year! it never ends!!!! but so fulfilling and worth it! good luck.
if you have any awesome ideas, share them around. last saturday we had an activity themed around nauvoo. we had the kids washing clothes on a washboard, beating rugs with a stick, square dancing, playing stick pull, attending an old-fashioned school class, and experiencing (through stories and makeshift rooms) the way they lived. first in lean-to's in the swamp and people dying of diseases to log cabins and the financial troubles of trying to build a new city and the temple, to the more fancy homes and the problems of being threatened out of their homes because the government was scared they were becoming too prosperous. it was a blast!
