Eclipse

After a few weeks of taking a break from reading, I decided to read Eclipse. This one was by far my favorite. Half way through it, I decided that I can finally like Edward. I really couldn't understand the obsession with him until he started explaining himself in this book and then I thought he was great. But Poor Jacob. I am excited to read Breaking Dawn even though everyone says it is crazy. I will have to wait until we go to Moab next week, I can read it in the Blazer and not feel guilty for spending to much time with my face in a book.

Pinewood Derby

The young men in our ward had a fund raiser for scout camp and they let anyone buy and build a pinewood derby car. Jon bought 2 cars. One for him and one for Calvin. Jon signed up for the unlimited race, where anything goes. Calvin was in the stock class. We built Calvin a Lightning McQueen car and it was super fast. He got 1st place five times and 2nd place in one race. Jon built a little baja truck. He evened welded a mini roll cage. Jon's truck was pretty fast but nothing compared to the battery powered car that went 322 mph. It was a fun night.

Jon cut out the car design and Calvin and I painted and put the eyes on it. It looks just like McQueen in the movie, right?

Karate Kid

Calvin took a few trial karate classes last week. We are trying to decide if we want to stick with it or wait until he is a little older. He was pretty shy, he didn't want to go around the other kids. That is actually one of the reasons we wanted to put him in karate, he has been very shy and clingy lately. He cries every time Jon or I leave. Yesterday he cried for 20 minutes because he didn't get to say goodbye to Jon. And whenever someone new comes around he shakes and covers his eyes. We thought if we put him in some sort of classes, like karate, he would loosen up a bit. He says he really liked karate, he just gets scared. So maybe we will stick with it, I just don't want to pay for something if he is just going to sit in the corner. Here is a picture of him in his cute uniform.

I love when Calvin sings and plays the piano. I was hoping to get him to sing Nephi's courage again but he said that I was too late. So, he sang I am a Child of God instead. Does anyone know how to get the movie to flip?

My Mom's surprise party

On March 12th my mom turned 50 years old. I know, I know everyone has told me that my mom is so young! My sister, dad, and I planned a big surprise for her on March 14th. BreAnna and I decorated the church gym, made taco soup, sent out invites, and made up games. My dad told my mom that he needed to grab something from his office at the church (he is the bishop) and he brought her into to the gym for her to hear 50 of her friends and family yell "Happy Birthday." She was shocked! She couldn't believe that everyone had kept it a secret, especially my brothers and dad. We really threw her off by telling her we were throwing her a party on Sunday the 15th. It was a blast to have a party for her. She deserved it, she is always doing everything for everyone else. We wanted her to have a night where she could just sit back and visit and not do any of the work. I think that she had a great time.

We decorated the chalk board because we played pictionary and the words were things my mom loves. Examples: The Jazz, walking fast, Lake Powell, Sunflower seeds.
We also had people stand up and tell their favorite memories about my mom. It was really fun to hear what everyone had to say.

Mommy Daughter date

On Wednesday Lily and I went with our friends Jeri and Darcy to get glitter toes done. Lily was so cute, she sat so still and let the beautician paint her little toes. I kept asking her if she was having fun and she would say "yaaa". Then we went to lunch at the Pizza Factory and Lily was so quiet and she sat still in her high chair and ate her lunch. We had so much fun. On the way home she kept saying "toes, toes", it was so cute. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of Lily's toe nails before they all fell off the next day. I think the girl doing her toes forget to put the bond x on because my are perfectly stuck to my toes and last year when I got them done they stayed on for 8 weeks! Lily gets to have hers redone next week and then hopefully I will get a picture. We need to have mommy daughter dates more often.
