Calvin's Water Party

We have always had a water party for Calvin's birthday because it is always so hot. This year we borrowed our neighbors huge blow-up water slide, had water bomb balls, water balloons and squirt guns. We got everyone involved. A select few got soaked, including Jon and I, but we tried to get everyone a little wet. It was a blast! Calvin got a new digger and freaked out if anyone touched it, he also got a new superman outfit (to him it is a prince outfit) with a cape that he has not taken off in 3 days. We even ended the night with fireworks, it was our stake's 10 year celebration and they had a huge firework show. What a fun day!

These are Jon's legs sticking up after he flipped down the slide.

Calvin's buddy Parker splashing down the slide.

Calvin loves this Captain Hook stuff he got from his Aunt Alicia, especially the sword.

This is the Superman outfit that he refuses to take off.

All About Calvin

Oh Wow, Calvin is three! It really does not seem that long ago when I was bringing him home from the hospital. He has been such an amazing little boy. We love him to pieces. He makes me laugh all day with the things he comes up with. He is so smart, he knows his ABC's (singing and recognizing), he can read some words, he can count to 15, he has a huge vocabulary (just today he told me he was very frusterratted), he can put his Bob the builder puzzle together all by himself, he can dress and undress himself and say his own prayers. Right now his favorite things are: Bob the Builder, diggers, being a prince, dressing up like a tool guy or prince or super hero, playing pretend, playing with friends and cousins, reading stories, watching movies and hanging out with Dad in the garage. His favorite foods are: Chips, beans and cheese, and pizza and breadsticks ( I know we need to work on the fruit and vegi thing). A couple of my very favorite things about Calvin is that he is always smiling, he is the most ticklish person you will ever meet, and he always gives me hugs and kisses. Calvin is really such a joy, I could not have asked for a better little boy. At his Doctor appt he weighed 31 lbs, was 37 inches tall and that makes him be in the 25% for both. Here is a look back at the last three years. (By the way, Lily's post is updated with pictures).

This is about a week after Calvin had gotten stitches. He was 10 months old and he cut right under his eye with a mirror. It was soooo sad and he still has a scar. But of course he is still smiling.

Calvin was 3 months old in this picture and he would get so excited when we put him in his swing.

Calvin is 2 months old in this family picture and this does not show how much dark hair he had. But I absolutely love this picture.

Calvin the musician

This was so funny, I had to get out the video camera. Calvin was singing all sorts of songs while playing the piano. He was making up new words to old songs and then he would applaud himself.
I particularly like the part where he shakes his body.

Me? Are you sure?

I updated the blanks on the post below because I realized I had told so many people that no one was commenting. So go ahead, check it out and now you can all leave comments.

My favorite holiday

The 4th of July has always been my favorite holiday. We always have a family reunion with my Dad's side of the family. He has 8 brothers and sisters and they all have kids and now we all have kids and so it usually turns out to be quite a few people. It has even been such a great tradition that some years my Mom's family and bunches of other friends have come by. We would always have a BBQ and potluck lunch and then play basketball and other outside games. Then when it got dark everyone would bring out their fireworks and we would have a great show in the front yard. Our party yesterday was a little different. A lot of the family was out of town and so it was more laid back then it usually is. Instead of our parents watching us have a basketball tournament we watched our little kids (their grandkids) play in the water. The weather was not too hot, it was perfect. Ever since Jon and I got married we have also been doing his family tradition of going to the Marriot grounds and watching the stadium fireworks. Calvin thought they were awesome and Lily was just tired. On the way home BreAnna called and said Josh proposed. My little sister is getting married! All and all it was a good day and it is still my favorite holiday. I just love the heat and the good BBQ food and the company and the fireworks.
But most importantly I love celebrating our freedom and I am so grateful to be living in the circumstances that we live in and I love America.

Me? Are you sure?

I don't know why I keep getting switched from one calling to the next but the bishopric came over last Thursday and I was pretty darn sure they were here for Jon. But no, it was for me again. This is my fourth calling in 9 months! I was really content with being the Laurel adviser. Actually, that is my preferred calling and I absolutely love it. I was just getting to know the names of about half of the 60 young women. And I am in charge of the food for YW's camp and I am so excited to go. So when the bishopric said the calling was for me I was a little shocked and sad and excited. You will never guess what they called me to. I was pretty floored and I think I sat there with my jaw on the floor for 2 full minutes before I started laughing. I am not suppose to say what it is until Sunday. So, any guesses? You can't write what it is in the comments if you know (because I told you). They asked me to be the Primary President! Ahhh, we have 180 kids in our ward! And isn't there some sort of prerequisite for a calling like this? I have only taught sunbeams which I hardly think qualifies me to organize the primary. I am really scared and excited and overwhelmed and the first assignment I had to do was pick counselors. Which was so hard because there are so many wonderful women in our ward and I only know half of their names. The last time I had to choose counselors was when I was 16 and in Laurels and it wasn't that big of a deal because we were all friends. I still can't believe they asked me. Anyways, after much thought, I think I can do this?! It is going to be busy and hard but it will be alright and most of all it will be a wonderful learning experience.

Poisoned tacos

Oh man, we had a rough weekend. We ate out on Friday night and by about midnight I was in the worst pain. My stomach hurt so bad I thought I was gonna die. Jon was kind enough to give me a blessing a 3:00 in the morning. I think I maybe slept one hour before Calvin woke up with throw up all over himself and rushing to the bathroom to do other unmentionable things. I was in pain until Sunday. Jon just had a dull stomach ache until this morning when he got violently ill. It has been 12 hours and he still can't get out of bed. So I was wondering, if this is food poisoning which we were pretty sure it was, then why did I get it when Calvin did on Friday night and Jon didn't get it until today? Well my friend told me that some kinds of food poisoning don't effect you for 72 hrs. So, that would be now. It must have just hit me and Calvin quick because I am pretty sure it was not the flu. Who know? I hope Jon gets better soon and we can be done with this.

Picture day

Every year we get pictures of the kids taken at Kiddie Kandids because they give a free 8x10 of each of them for their birthdays. This year we decided to get our family pictures done while we were there. During the pictures Jon said he wasn't feeling good. So, he went out to the car to rest. When we were driving home he said, "pull over!" and he threw up all over the road. Yuk! I think the pictures turned out good even though he was feeling sick. Poor Jon, he was such a good sport.
